THE MARKS-STEVENSON COLLECTION. The very beginning. Trying to locate the earliest photograph in the collection to authenticate the origin. So far we’ve found a few dating back to 1910, celebrating the opening of the Dominion Trust Building in Vancouver, BC. Banners hanging from the windows, pleats still fresh. Just as fresh as the horse shit a ways down the street.

Me and Mom having fun sorting through the early albums, notebook handy, looking for clues. Even discovered an album that may belong to her father, my grandfather, Louis Stevenson. Several photos of him labelled ‘self’ in one album with a suitably catchy title on the cover.

‘Snaps by the way’ – an album by Louis Stevenson. Daughter Doreen discovers her father’s collection, June 13th 2020.

Even an old folded letter found on the back of a baking flyer. The fading pencil, possibly written by my great-grandmother, traced in pen to preserve the message by my grandmother Lois Stevenson in the winter of 1933-34. Her handwriting distinctly noting the occasion on the top of the letter. Documented with a Huawei smartphone by RW Marks in 2020 to preserve in the MSC digital archive.

‘Re-written Winter 33-34’

Note the commentary on the recipe itself. Grandma bluntly writes “Wrong. No Good.” on top of the recipe. Making her Grandson proud with wry skepticism like that. No wonder.

‘Wrong. No good.’

English Bay with a long pier. Monet painting models wandering the beaches. Full regale. With so much more to find.

Happy Marks-Stevenson-Saturday. The first.
